Spring Classic

Charlie "The Edge" Venegas took home the First Division Main Event for the second straight week at The Grand in Industry Hills on Wednesday night.
Colorado native Buck Blair drew the inside starting position with Venegas in gate two, Ryan Fisher in gate three, and Northern California's Tommy Hedden on the outside. Venegas was first off the line and he went right to the inside while Fisher tried to make the outside work.
Venegas stayed low to fight off Blair's challenge while Fisher ran out of grip and dropped low himself. Venegas pulled to a comfortable lead and Fisher relieved Blair of second but couldn't prevent Venegas from another victory. Blair finished third and Hedden was fourth.
The heats began with a great battle between Venegas and Dario Galvin with the youngster challenging the former national champion on the outside before settling for second. Fisher took the second race ahead of George Fox. Nate Perkins completed round one with a win over Denny Scopellite.
Fisher made it two in a row by holding off Venegas to begin the second round. Fox scored an impressive victory over Perkins in race 11. Hedden won his first race to finish round two.
Hedden made it two in a row by holding off Perkins to begin the final round. Fisher kept his unbeaten streak alive by defeating Fox. Blair ended the heats with a win over Brian Starr.
Pileups in the first corner forced the first semi to be restarted twice, but the third attempt saw Venegas trap from the outside and run away with the win while Blair took second and the other transfer to the main. Fisher kept his night perfect by winning the second semi and bringing Hedden along with him to the main. Fox was headed to victory in the Consolation, but lifted exiting turn four on the second lap, ended up on his backside, and allowed Scopellite to get the win.
The Second Division Main began with Michael Hernandez riding the outside into the lead, but his advantage wasn't enough to drop in on inside-riding Neil Facchini. It appeared that Hernandez ran out of racetrack on the front straight, brushed the wall, then slid off in turn one. Facchini controlled the race from there and was first to the checkered flag. Dale Facchini followed his brother across the line for second, Troy McConnell was third, and Hernandez was credited with fourth.
The Third Division Main featured an inside-outside battle between Mark Sincavage and Steve Dziadus, Sr. with Sincavage using the inside line to secure the lead on the second lap and hold on to the win. Dziadus, Sr. was second, Vince Giamformaggio finished third, and Damon Barry was fourth.
Krystal Cramer patiently worked through traffic and into the lead of the Youth Main Event on lap three, then held off National Champion Ricky Wells for the victory. Austin Novratil was third and Joey Holt finished fourth. Rocco Scopellite defeated Max Cirello in the Youth Main Event.
This coming Wednesday marks the monthly visit of the Sidecars who put on quite a show at the Spring Classic.
