Chris Kerr and Billy Hiles spearheaded Team Turnonemagazine.com to a dramatic 48-46 victory over Team Xtremespeedwayaction.com in a Dream Team Challenge match at Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville.
Team Xtremespeedwayaction.com led the match by eight points entering heat 15. With the final heat using a 6-4-2-0 format Team Turnonemagazine.com had a mathematical chance of tying the match and forcing a runoff. Team Turn One nominated Kerr and Hiles and Team Xtreme nominated Nate Perkins and Neil Facchini.
Hiles and Kerr left the line first and used superb side by side team racing to relegate the opposing pair to the back. After one lap it appeared that the match was destined for a runoff. Things went from bad to worse for Team Xtreme when Facchini went down and Perkins had to lay it down to avoid running over his partner. A 10-0 heat was awarded and Team Turn One was declared the match winners. As a favor to the fans, the riders staged the race as an exhibition with Kerr and Hiles again taking first and second with Facchini finishing third.
The British League format match began with Kerr powering to victory, but the overall results was a drawn heat. Team Xtreme scored a 5-1 in race two led by Chris Metoyer and Tommy Kistler. Race three was a 4-2 in favor of Team Xtreme with Dale Facchini leading the way. Hiles won race four, but Neil Facchini and Kistler managed to keep the race a draw.
Hiles was allowed to replace Steve Murray in race five and it paid off as he scored his second straight victory and en route to a 4-2 for Team Turn One. Kerr earned his second straight win in race six and Eloy Medellin's third gave Team Turn One another 4-2. Race seven saw Hiles win again to lead Team Turn One's third consecutive 4-2 which tied the match at 21.
Races eight and nine both resulted in drawn heats which were won by Rick Valdez and Neil Facchini, respectively. Kerr won his third straight race in heat ten to help Team Turn One take a two point advantage. Perkins handed Hiles his first loss in race 11 and a third by Valdez helped to even the score at 33. Dale Facchini passed Murray on the outside for the lead and the victory in race 12 as Team Xtreme took the match lead again.
Neil Facchini jumped into the lead in heat 13 while previously undefeated Kerr was last on the first lap. Kerr fought his way to second and set his sights on Facchini. Kerr pressured Facchini the whole way but couldn't get by and the resulting 4-2 increased Team Xtreme's lead to 41-37.
Kistler and Laurer scored a pivotal 5-1 in heat 14 to make the score 46-38 and set up the dramatic conclusion to the match.
The speedway meeting was held in conjunction with promoter John Aden's standard car program as well as a flat track program. A youth program was scheduled as well. The abundance of races forced the two youth divisions to race together. The First Division racers started at the tapes and Second Division started 20 yards back and created duel scratch races.
Krystal Cramer won both heats and the main and never turned a wheel wrong in doing so. Jason Ramirez finished second and Gino Manzares was third. Ricky Valdez won all three of the Second Division races, including the main, with Dylan Black finishing second and Joey Holt in third.
