Along with an exciting program of speedway racing the Extreme Sidecar teams made their second of five appearances at the Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn thrilling a capacity crowd at the Gold Country Fairgrounds Friday night. Five sidecar teams saddled up on their brakeless 1000cc three-wheeled bikes and put on an exciting sidecar racing program.
Veteran sidecar driver Joe Jones and rider Johnny Glover won the sidecar main event. Jones and Glover's years of sidecar experience are tough to beat on any track. "All the fans up here are just awesome, this year we will be coming up here five times, Jones said. "It's a great track up here, a very family friendly atmosphere and we do the best we can to put on good race and let them see 1000cc sidecars with two people and no brakes go for it."
Billy Janniro was unbeatable again in the scratch program winning all of his races including the scratch main event. Janniro stumbled a little in the handicap program finishing in fourth and unable to pull off another double main event winning evening. In the scratch main event Janniro came out of lane two with a great gate start. Auburn's Tommy Hedden gave Janniro the most trouble in the main event but Janniro easily added yardage between them on each lap and breezed to the win with a wheelie across the finish line. Hedden who started in lane one was second, Bart Bast was third and last week's main event winner Charlie Venegas finished fourth. Janniro was coming off a stellar performance in the first round of the AMA USA National Speedway Championship last Saturday in Southern California with a perfect night scoring 21 points and leading the championship series. Riders will need to bring their best game and then some to beat Janniro in the national championship series.
Venegas pulled off his second main event win in so many weeks winning the handicap main event. Venegas, who is the only rider to beat Janniro in a scratch main event this season, held off a hard charging Bryce Starks in the handicap main event for the win. Starks was second and Bart Bast was third. Janniro pulled into the Division I Fast Friday's points standing lead with 746 points after last week. Bast is second with 722 points and Starks stands at 114 points.
Kyle Porteous picked up his first Division II win of the season. Porteous has worked his way back from third division after breaking his leg last year in a race. "It has taken me a few weeks to find out where my leg strength is, finding that right foot peg again, and just putting the left shoe in the dirt," Porteous said. Jamison Dilkey was second and last week's Division II winner Michael Achilles was third. After last week's tally Achilles now leads Division II in track points with 257 followed by Chris Popanz who has 228. David Mersaroli is third in the standings and just one point behind Popanz with 227 points. Division III was topped by crowd favorite Lars Kotrlik who also picked up his first main event win of the season. Kotrlik stayed ahead of Lawrence McNutt who finished second and John Peters who finished third. McNutt leads the Division III in track points race with 265 followed by Harlan Bast with 233.
Both Youth 250cc powerhouse riders Luke Becker and Colton Hicks were absent from Friday night's program line-up leaving Chase Guerrero to run wild having great night winning two of his three races including the main event. Blake Borello was second and William Fike was third. Aidan McNutt took home top honors in the 150cc Youth B main event. Cameron Krezman was second and Charlie Trana finished third. Sterling Martin won two of his three races in the 150cc Youth division including the main event. Landon Norton finished second and also won one heat race. Dylan Wagner finished third. Jay Fodrini won the Run What U Brung contest for the second week in a row.
