Jim Sisemore wins the Main Event! Second week!

More good racing at Cal Expo. The track was consistent, stayed flat all night, despite the horrendously hot weather that this facility endures during the summer months. The promoter told me that they are tearing it all up again this week to put a new, even better, surface on for next week.

Paul Orlandi showed great form to get into the scratch semi final, beating Chad Felicio and Tommy Hedden. He is clearly building up more confidence each week.

Handicap Main

Robert Curry from the 30 yard line lead for most of the race, followed by Bart Bast. Bart got a monster start from the 50 yard line, long before the tapes went up, but the referee missed it. On form Sisemore worked his way past Bart, and on the last lap they both got past Curry.

Billy Janniro, Paul Orlandi and Ian Essary qualified for this race. Billy Janniro's primary chain guard fell off while waiting for the race to start. Ian Essary took a tumble and Paul Orlandi fell taking avoiding action. Ryan Fisher looked good and consistent, as always. But nobody caught up with Rick Shafer. Rick is one of the many older (than 40) nice guys who ride in Northern California Speedway, who shows up every week, with a clean, well prepared bike, lots of enthusiasm, who normally end up in the dust of the youngsters. It was encouraging to see Rick fighting back and enjoy some success!

Visitor from Costa Mesa Terry McCurdy put on a good ride, but could not get past local man, Derek Silva.

Donny Powell also qualified for this race, but was a non starter.

Ray Linn was the only finisher. JT Mabry was a non starter and Greg Hooten has machine failure.

Still the crowd at Cal Expo is disappointingly small and I still really can't work out why. The racing was good, the show was well organized and finished at a reasonable time. The promoters have advertised it on TV and radio, they have handed out flyers, money off coupons, 2 for 1 coupons, I believe its now down to us, the fans to seriously start dragging our friends along, if we are to keep this track alive.
