John began racing in 1981 and has ridden in the First Round of the Individual Speedway World Championship in California five times, the last on May 26, 2000. See John in more photos by Gary Roberts at Fast Fridays Speedway in this event.

In his first California rides in the early 90's, John impressed the California crowd, but had fierce competition from the likes of Greg Hancock, Billy Hammill, Sam Ermolenko, Gary Hicks, Lucero and Oxley ! This was at a time when he was finishing 3rd in the Canadian Nationals. He raced at Ascot, San Bernardino and Costa Mesa in 1990.
