Program notes by Kim Gregory
The rider turnout was down from previous weeks, and the crowd was also a little thinner tonight.
We still enjoyed some great racing, starting with heat one where
Aaron De Veau got the gate, and finished with a half a lap lead on the three way battle for second.
Jeff Orosz came back to racing tonight with a fast laydown that gave him a two bike lead out of the corner on every lap. Gary Hesmer got close to him a few times, but was quite busy with the fierce competition from Freddy Legault and John Mercier.
John Mercier's score does not reflect his speed tonight. His first heat he finished last, but only feet behind second, and inches behind third. He lead the Handicap Final for three laps, and we thought he had the race. Freddy Legault was behind him, and Freddy is VERY hard to pass. This would have kept Gary and Jeff off John's back tire for the final three laps. Coming out of turn four, John's bike spun 180 degrees! John held on as he went down on the groove, in front of three close riders. They all managed to avoid him, but John's front forks were damaged due to the twisting fall, and he did not compete for the rest of the night.
The handicap was restarted, with the riders in the positions they held before John's crash. We expected a 'follow the leader' final three laps, but Gary and Jeff kept us well entertained with a heated battle for second.
The Division Three Final saw Paul Martin gate, with Aaron De Veau glued to his rear tire, and they tangled in turn two. They did not fall, but messed them up enough to allow Jeremy Musson to steal the show, and lead to the checkered flag!
Mark Engel took the Division Two Final. Arron Hesmer was hot behind him after showing up at the track without his leathers or a bike! He was sent home for his leathers, and rode borrowed bikes through the night with varying sucess. His brother Chris Hesmer, was at home fixing the damage Aaron had done to their laydown they had shared last week. Hope they do well at Welland tommorrow night on it!
