Fast Fridays Speedway Gold Country Fairgrounds Auburn, California
25 Lap Main Event
July 29, 2005 - Fast Fridays, Auburn
By Gary Roberts
Already we are 65% of the way through the season and Auburn. This week coincided with a car show up in Reno so I was expecting to see a smaller crowd, but the stands were fairly full. The track a little dry, but consistent.
Unofficial results:
25 Lap Main Event
1. Bart Bast
2. Bryan Yarrow
3. Nate Perkins
4. Billy Hiles
5. Matt Browne
6. Shawn Harmatuik
7. JJ Martynse
Charlie Venegas also qualified for the race, but was a non-starter.
The 25 lap main event, the annual Speedway-bike torture session, was won by Bart Bast, who was closely pursued by Bryan Yarrow. In the last couple of laps it looked like Bryan would make a bid for the lead, but he could not find a way past Bart. Nate Perkins in third place was the only other rider to complete 25 laps. Billy Hiles was 1 lap down and Matt Browne 2 laps down. Shawn Harmatuik was the lowest yardage rider in the race and built a healthy lead for about the first 15 laps, then started to suffer a sticky throttle cable. His race ended 3 laps later, when it actually snapped. JJ Martynse fell on about lap 8.

Bobby Hedden's injuries suffered last week included a broken back and broken ribs. Despite surgery, steel rods screws etc. Bobby is going to be on the sick list for 4 to 6 months. His season is over, maybe his career. For a rider who has given so much to Northern California Speedway over the past 25 years, this is a very unfortunate break. Get well Bobby!
Tonight's its off to Carson City, Nevada for more Speedway. This will be the fourth event at this facility and each time the crowd has got bigger.
Let's make sure the trend continues.
