Thorne 'Butch' Waymire

November 10, 1959 - June 2, 2022

LUCERNE VALLEY (June 6, 2022) – Thorne “Butch” Lee Waymire died in a private plane crash in Lucerne Valley on Thursday morning, June 2.

The fatal crash happened around 11:35 a.m. on a property in the 36000 block of Harvest Moon Street near Highway 247.

Waymire, a 66-year-old Big Bear resident, was piloting the privately-owned Meyer Fred Hornet single-seat acrobatic plane when it crashed. He was the only person aboard the aircraft and died in the crash.

At this time, the circumstances of the crash were not immediately available.

The SBC Sheriff’s Aviation, the Federal Aviation Association and the National Transportation and Safety Board are investigating.
