1994 - 3rd Place - Points Division One.
1993 - 2nd Place - Points in Division One
1992 - Amateur Champion ( 1st place in Division Two )
Gary began racing speedway in 1990 against a field of 62 riders in Division One and 45 in Division Two, and achieved a
respectable third place in Division Two points standings, and two wins to his credit. Gary was the 1995 High Points Champion at the Central Ontario Speedway in Paris Ontario. In a challenging season of close competition, with riders from Quebec, the USA and even Austria, Gary managed to win the Division One title. The 1994 champion was his 18 year old cousin Chris Hesmer from Brantford. Gary accumulated 50 points, Chris 39, Jeff
Oroz also from Brantford at 23, and Andy Harris from St. Catharines (a former British League rider) with 19. For some highlights of his 1995 season see the race results from June 17, and August 20.
Gary has raced as far away as California's Costa Mesa track. He made an impressive entry into Indoor ICE Racing in 1997, earning him the Rookie of the Year Award. He continued in ICE for three years, traveling to Texas, Mississippi, Carolinas,
Tennessee, Louisiana, and Indiana, running handlebar to handlebar with pro racers from Europe, Australia and the USA.
Gary is involved in helping the RCMP* in a program that encourages kids to stay off drugs. "Racing Against Drugs"
travels to local schools, and lets our kids meet the athletes, and talk about how important it is to stay straight.
Gary achieved his goal for 1999, winning the Canadian Points Championship, while providing maximum value for those that matter most, his team sponsors and the spectators!
